US Commissioner of CBP Meets With B5 Countries in Australia

US CBP Commissioner Kerlikowske’s Trip to Australia

WASHINGTON—U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske begins travel this week in Australia to meet with the B5 countries of Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and Canada in Melbourne.

As part of the meeting, Commissioner Kerlikowske and counterparts will provide updates on the progress of the 2014-2015 Work Plan that was developed in June 2014.

In addition, CBP will sign the Container Security Initiative Declaration of Principles with Australia Customs and Border Protection Service to formally recognize the partnership between the two entities.

The primary mission of the Container Security Initiative is to prevent and deter terrorist use of maritime containers while facilitating the movement of legitimate trade.

CSI operates in 60 ports worldwide and over 80 percent of all maritime cargo imported into the United States is subject to pre-screening at CSI locations.
