Today, as we celebrate Mother’s Day, we honor the women in our lives and around the globe who are mothers and grandmothers and those who serve in the roles of mothers. Today and every day, we are grateful for the many mothers and other women whose strength and resilience keep our families and communities together.
It is also an opportunity to reflect on the health challenges mothers face and the fact that in many low- and middle-income countries various factors make it difficult for millions of women to preserve their own health, give birth to healthy babies, or ensure their child has a healthy beginning.
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) maternal health programs are working in 24 countries where 70 percent of maternal deaths and half of the unmet need for family planning occur. USAID works with partners and country governments to deliver timely, quality, and respectful care to women during one of the most exciting and joyful moments in their lives.
Join us in wishing mothers around the world a Happy Mother’s Day.
