Second Annual Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies concludes in Abu Dhabi

The Second Annual Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies concluded in Abu Dhabi with calls to adopt true values of Islam, update the Islamic discourse to eschew and counter extremism.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, Chairman of the Forum for Promotion of Peace in Muslim Societies called on Muslim scholars and clerics to update the Islamic discourse in the framework of Islamic values to counter extremists who guide Muslims to conflicts and incitements to deform the image of Islam and Muslims.

He said at the closing session, during which renowned Islamic thinker and activist Wahiduddin Khan was conferred the Sayyidina Imam Al Hassan Ibn Ali Peace Award by the Forum, that “The scholars and intellectuals are facing real challenges to promote the peaceful message of Islam, purposes, terminologies and semantic knowledge, given the fact that peace is a truer expression that depicts the philosophy of the Quran and the course of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).”

Sheikh bin Bayyah noted that the honouring of Wahiduddin Khan is symbolic, being an honour to peaceful nature of Islam, adding that Khan has devoted his life to inculcating the culture of peace and promotion of the values of tolerance in Islam over more than 70 years during which he issued more than 200 book on true religion, humanity and ethics.

The Forum recommended the establishment of Youth Forum to promote peace in Muslim societies and form youth teams to spread themes of peace and enter into dialogue with their counterparts in the world. They should conduct field visits to the areas of sectarian or ideological tensions.

It called for the establishment of a satellite channel to broadcast culture of peace, and the issuance of the magazine to reflect the ideas of Forum and publish researches of scholars and thinkers.

The youth also should collect publications written by the advocates of extremism and terrorism to categorise, analyse and critique their intellectual foundations and justifications coated with misguided religious justifications.

It also called for the establishment of universities and research institutes to collect the provisions of international treaties in the history of Muslims to study them from the perspective of different scientific disciplines.

The participants paid tribute to H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, on his patronage and continuous support to the Forum and its message. They also wished well for President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The participants also thanked Sheikh Bin Bayyah for his invitation to attend the Forum and effective efforts to boost peace in the Muslim societies.
