The Seychelles Tourism Academy has welcomed its cohort of first-year students this week in a special assembly held in the institution’s new restaurant.

Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange and that of the Labor and Human Resource Development Idith Alexander, and Principal Secretary for Tourism Anne Lafortune, were among the guests attending the ceremony.

After Pastor Bijoux from the Seventh Day Adventist Church had given his blessings, the academy’s Principal Flavien Joubert addressed the students.

Mr. Joubert urged the new students that they need to respect each other and those around them.

He also announced that the academy will give each student an email address on its global system that will be a mode of communication between the lecturers and the students.

Minister St.Ange described the ceremony as a milestone for Seychelles.

“We are welcoming the new cohort in the Tourism Academy built by the government of Seychelles for our students,” he said.

He added that the number of new students enrolled in the courses this year shows the interest tourism has raised in the country.

Minister St.Ange said there is a need to ensure that the frontline team in their establishments are Seychellois and that they do take their position in the tourism industry.

“Without tourism, our economy will crumble, therefore, I call on all students of the academy to be united and to be prepared to work with us to defend and consolidate the industry,” he added.

“If we have this academy today, it is because President James Michel saw the need to invest to ensure that our industry remains the main pillar of the economy,” the Minister added.

Others present to give the students words of encouragement as they start their new journey at the academy were Gersende Eichler and John Stravens, both well known in the tourism industry.

Mr. Stravens urged the students to make the most of their learning experience at the academy as knowledge is equal to success.

“Learn to work hard so that you can excel and develop a positive attitude that is conducive to good service,” he said.
