BUCHAREST: Radu Jude’s Aferim!,Romania’s entry in the foreign-language Oscar, will be distributed by Big World Pictures in the US at the beginning of 2016.

Jude’s feature which won the Golden Bear and the Best Director Award at Berlin International Film Festival was selected to represent Romania at the Oscars by a jury consisting of Romanian film critics. 

Representatives of HiFilm told FNE that the film was already sold by Beta Cinema in Hungary, ex-Yugoslavia, Poland, Taiwan, France, Czech Republic and Bulgaria. Negotiations with the other territories are underway.

Aferim! is produced by Romania’s  Hi Film in coproduction with Bulgaria’s Klas Film, endorfilm from the Czech Republic and Romania’s Mulberry Development with the participation of Nu Boyana Film Studios, U-Films, Production XMG Media, Abis Studio, and Camera.

The film was also made in association with EZ Films (France) and HBO Romania, with the support of Eurimages, the Romanian National Film Center (CNC), the Bulgarian National Film Center and the Czech Film Fund.

In Romania Aferim! has had 72,601 admissions since its premiere on 13 March 2015, the biggest number for a domestic film this year. The film hit the French cinemas on 3 August 2015.
