Foreign Minister of Estonia To Participate In The UN General Assembly New York

Foreign Minister Kaljurand will visit New York and Washington D.C.

Foreign Minister Marina Kaljurand is beginning a visit to the United States today. On December 15, the Foreign Minister will participate in the UN General Assembly in New York, where a discussion on the implementation of the results of the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS+10) will take place.

The Foreign Minister will also participate in a discussion on “Women’s Empowerment in the Digital Era: the implementation of WSIS outcomes and Agenda 2030”.

The Foreign Minister will thereafter travel to Washington, where she will meet with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland.

The main topics to be covered at the meetings will be regional security, cooperation between NATO and Estonia, and U.S. bilateral relations. In addition, Ukraine, relations with Russia, the fight against terrorism and cyber-cooperation will be on the agenda.

The Foreign Minister will also participate in the Center for Strategic & International Studies’ (CSIS) cyber themed discussion and will speak to former and current U.S. journalists at the National Press Club.

While in Washington, Kaljurand will also take part in the Estonian Embassy’s Christmas party.

The Foreign Minister will return to Estonia on December 19.
