I am delighted that Fiji has become the tenth country to sign up to Australia’s Seasonal Worker Program today. Parliamentary Secretary Steve Ciobo signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Suva with the Hon Jioji Konrote, Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, marking Fiji’s inclusion in the scheme.

The Seasonal Worker Program is a mutually beneficial initiative, providing valuable opportunities for Fijian workers to secure short-term employment in Australia, and helping Australian employers to fill gaps in the available labour force.  The program is consistent with our focus on creating jobs, boosting incomes and contributing to economic development in our region.

In addition to the horticulture industry, the Seasonal Worker Program is also being trialled in the accommodation, aquaculture, cotton and cane sectors.

I am confident Fiji will be a valuable partner under this program as we continue to strengthen our relationship.

Employers seeking to access seasonal workers from Fiji, or other participating countries should visit the Seasonal Worker Program website.

Fijian citizens seeking to participate in the Seasonal Worker Program should contact the Fijian Ministry for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations.
